I have a '64 Feb production L84. the judging guide says that the aircleaner is attached to the wheel well with 3 hexhead bolts through the wheel well. OK so far. The top 2 bolts pass through a rectangular plate attached to the fenderwell and the bottom bolt through a large fender washer. My question now is reguarding that rectangular plate. How was it attached? As the guide states that it was there before undercoating and that some undercoating would be on the plate. So, Would someone out there with a correct 63-65 fuel car look up into their wheel well and give me some idea of the deminsions of this plate, thickness, and how it is attached? Also would like to know if those bolts are plated, ect. and the size of that large fender washer on the third bolt. thanks very much in advance Blake

Re: Attached? Really?
If it is a misprint or mistake in the manual it has been there a long time as I looked in previous editions as well as the '65 manual too. I did get an email from an owner of a '65 fuel car along with a picture of the plate. Nothing special about it; rectangular in shape. He claimed it was just held against the inner fenderwell by the bolts. the judging manual states that there would be some undercoating on it. Now if that is the case then the plate would have to be in place prior to undercoating the wheel well. I'd still like to hear from some other folks that know this model better than I reguarding this plate. Last question Jerry; If you have not seen this plate in judging these cars then what are you seeing in there? thanks for the help Blake- Top

The plate, yes. Attached, no.
I don't think I'm going to be able to clear this up to anyone's satisfaction.
Yes, I've seen the plate on my unrestored cars and others. But I've never seen one attached to the fenderwell with anything other than the air cleaner bolts. I don't remember seeing one with factory undercoating on it.- Top
