I have one wiper cable that is sort of loose. I tried pushing on the transmission as per the ST12, (and pulling) with no apparent effect. I gathered the shaft should return on its own by spring action. I had to pull it back up. The manual has very little information. Can anyone shed some light on this? Would a little WD 40 help? If so, where?

Re: C1 wiper transmission
Ed, If your transmission will not tighten up the slack in your cables then most likely it is frozen and will need to be repaired. I sent mine to Mary Jo and her husband put new cables and freed up the mechanism for about $55. I tried the lubrication route but had no luck, you simply can't get the lube to where it needs to go. I suppose if you immersed the entire transmission in wd40 it might free it up but I gave up after a couple of hours. John- Top

Re: C1 wiper transmission
I had the same problem with my 54 vette windshield wiper transmission cables after I restored it several years ago. I also tried pushing the tops of the transmissions to eliminate the slack and it never worked for me. Finally Jerry Bramlett figured out how to do it. Under the wiper blade there is a screw which extends thru the wiper transmission. He simply took a screwdriver and turned the screws and the slack in the cables was immediately corrected. I have not found this solution in any corvette literature or books, but it worked for me. Jerry Bramlett's phone is 334-478-4003 in case you want to call him for more information and it might save you money in repairs.- Top
