Gentlemen: In August, I exchanged a number of posts relating to my L-79 overheating, and was advised to check the usual suspects, such as water level, thermostat, timing, fan clutch, etc. Which I did purposefully, but to no avail. The car still wanted to run up to 200 - 210 for no apparent GOOD reason. I was used to seeing 180 on the nose.
So, my posts focused on this situation, and of course, I received excellent input.
And there was one gentleman (Jeff?) from south Jersey who described the exact same problem I had. And? Well, he swapped radiators, his CU core for a DeWitt's AL repro. Well, I'm here to state that this solution, i.e. making sure you have exact replacement radiator, is a MUST to keep the temp problem from driving you a little crazy. After about 600 mis. (to make sure), the DeWitt's solved the running-hot problem. Period. The root cause of the CU ineffectiveness is because there is far fewer 'slots' for the water to cruise threw, which translates to lack of adaquate BTU loss to keep the motor running 180. Check DeWitt's web site for a nice discussion.
And for John H., you're right. The new DeWitts out-of-the-box looked pretty enough to hang on the wall.
Anyhow, thanks to all along the net for your input.
Tom
