    64 coupe center dash console

Just received new dash pads and center console molding? from Al Knoch. Has anyone ever completed the task of redoing the center dash part? I ws expecting a solid center replacement and was sent a rubber like moulding? Does it go over the old one? Glued? I tried to contact Al Knoch, but everyone was out and I will try tomorrow. In the meantime, I would like some info? Thanks!

I believe the 64 center dash is vinyl covered similar to my 63. The easiest way to install the covering is to remove the center section from the car. Strip the existing pads and vinyl covering clean off the old adhesive. Using contact cement which is designed to withstand hot temperatures glue the new vinyl on. If you use a hair dryer to warm up the vinyl it will get soft and easier to handle. You may need new clips to install the dash pads. The old clips will break after a couple of uses.

Someone please feel free to correct me here -- I thought only the early 64's had the vinyl center console, the later ones did not have the vinyl and were smooth. I am not sure when they stopped using the vinyl.

Original poster -- make sure you car serial number should have the vinyl.
