C2 - '66 Interior Question

I have a '66 Corvette coupe (July) which has vinyl materal covering the plastic rear window trim and the wide overhead trim piece where the dome light mounts. The materal matches the other vinyl in the car and is the same color (dark blue) and texture and appears to be professionally done. I have not seen this on other cars. Has anyone seen this or is it an "owner modification".

I have a 66 coupe -- there is no vinyl in the places you describe. I have never seen a 66 with vinyl as you describe. I sounds to me like an owner modification.

All that said, a July car is a late, high serial number 66 car. What color is underneath the vinyl ?? I guess it is not out of the question for the factory to have run out your color and place vinyl over the moulding to get the right color ??? Anything is possibile however how do you prove to a judge that the factory did it that way.

The pieces around the back window appear to be blue from the back. Are these supposed to be plastic or metal? Mine are plastic.
The wide piece where the dome light attaches is fiberglass and looks to be neutral on the back but, after removing some of the vinyl, it is blue on the outside with some blue overspray on the back. I guess somebody had a lot of time (and vinyl materal) on their hands and made some user modifications.
This dark blue color is almost black in some cases.
The windshield trim is metal and looks almost black until you take it out in the sun- then you can see some blue. I'm going to repaint all the trim to the original Dark Blue, just to get it one color.
Anyone know where to get '66 Dark Blue paint. I have got the correct dye, but need paint for the metal.

I think you have now answered your own question that the vinyl covering is owner added. You should be able to get the correct interior colors from any major automotive paint supplier, PPG Dupont, etc. Look in your phone book under autimotive paint suppliers.
