1970 Floor Mats

Hi - What were the correct floor mats for a 70? Were they clear or black rubber or vinyl and what logo was on the mat? I searched the archives and the judging guide and could not find the info.

That information is not in those books because floor mats are a dealer installed option and thus are not judged (unless the owner refuses to remove them so that we can judge the carpet).
They were available in 1970 in both clear plastic or black rubber. I know the dealer accessories book only illustrated black, but I bought clear. It has been too long since I looked at mine for me to remember the logo - I'm not even sure I could find them.

I've never seen them in clear, only black. I will be on the lookout for a clear set for my collection. As Terry stated they were an over the counter Chevrolet Accessory. They have a crossed flags on each mat, ribs on the flat surface, and stippled finish on the angle portion. The passenger side is longer as it extends up the footwell to the top of the carpet and the drivers mat extends only to behind the gas pedal. They fit well and look good. I can get the part number if you need it.

My original owner 70 has had clear mats since I bought it 32 years ago. They were a lot more clear than they are now, although discolored somewhat, they are still untorn and look pretty good for a set of 32 year old mats.

Jim, Is it possible that you have the midyear style mats in your 70? I know the mid year accessory mats were clear. Without looking my memory tells me the clear mats have a Bowtie on them.

I have clear mats in my 71 exactly as dave described. So 70's are probably the same.

Dave I guess the part numbers will confirm what I have. The drivers side mat has on the back 3 1713 and under that part # 3926485 L.H. and the passenger mat has on the back 3 1714 and under that part # 3926486 R.H. . I don't remember if these numbers are in my dealer parts book, I will have to take a look. At the top of my mats is a circle with the crossed flags in the center.

The black NOS set I have is Part Number 1 #994401, Group 15.286. My clear mats have a Bowtie on each mat inside a circle surrounded by a stipple finish. The portion which lies on the flat is ribbed. These are for midyears, I believe.
