1958 Trunk Irons and 3 Speed

I need to install two original trunk irons and would appreciate any measurements that would allow the accurate drilling of holes and placement of the irons. Also, I have a 3 Speed with the follwing numbers: Main Case 3925647 J208; Tail 3860042. I believe assembly date is October 20, 1958, but not sure what the origin of Casting numbers are as they do not match the numbers provided in the Tech Manual and Judging Guide. Anyone have any ideas about the match to vehicle and date? Thanks.

    Richard -

If the side cover is 3919365 and the front bearing retainer is 3859033, it's a 1969 Corvette Saginaw 3-speed, built on October 20, 1968.

Richard: If your trunk lid is an original, there will be a round pad on the inside panel where the lowest mounting stud is secured. This will help locate the spacing distance. If you don't find these, just line them up with the centerline of the license lamp housings. Suggest you make a hole template using a strip of flimsy plastic to transfer the pattern from the irons to the trunk lid. Mike
