Does anyone know what kind of valve cover gaskets my 82 Crossfire came with? They have cork now, I think they were replaced. It only has 11,000 miles on it and I would like to put original gaskets on it.

Joe, there is cork on them now. Do you think it would be worth it to replace them with the RTV for judging or should I just leave them the way they are and take the point deduction? Thanks! After reveiwing many posted messages, I noticed you have helped out a lot in the past. Did you ever work for GM or judged events?- Top

I don't know how closely the 81-82 judges check for this point. However, if I were going to have the car judged, I think that I'd seal them the way they were originally sealed. It's inexpensive, relatively easy to do, and will provide a very effective seal. On the other hand, if the cork gaskets currently seal well, maybe it's not worth the risk of creating a problem when you don't have one now. In time, you can be sure that the cork gaskets will start leaking. At that time, at least, it might be worth switching to the original sealing method.
Regarding your last question, I've never worked in the automotive industry, at all, and, I do not serve as a judge in NCRS or any other judging competition. In Appreciation of John Hinckley- Top
