C3 - 427 Block numbers

I just purchased a 69 400hp roadster with matching numbers. The pad is stamped T1204LQ with the correct sequence number following. The block casting is 3955270 ... with a date code that reads ONV2 or UNV2. The book I have shows this casting as something other than a LQ usage. And the date code does not make any sence.. Does anyone have any idea what may have happened here? The build date on the trim tag is F02...

First of all, I don't think you're seeing the date code, but some other casting on the block. A block that early would have the date code down by the front of the starter on the side of the block. Look there and post again. Just for the record, most of the numbers books outside of NCRS publications have numerous errors pertaining to big blocks.

we own a 1968 427/400HP car and would be willing to show and help you in any fashion we can ... I too believe you are not see the actual casting date .. it is located on the passenger side of the car just about 1/2 way down towards the front of the engine and near the freeze plugs .. If you give me an other e-mail address I will be ahppy to take some digital phots and send them to you to help locate the correct area of the block .. would also be happy to exchange other information if needed as well
