The first "1" represents the 1961 model year, and the second "1" is the first digit of the six-digit car VIN number; even though it's only the 4587th car built, the VIN is always six digits, and in 1961 all Corvette VINs started with "1", thus the full VIN is 104587.- Top

The FULL Vin Is
10867S106049. "1" the model year, "0" a spacer digit, "687" the RPO for Corvette, "S" for St. Louis, "1" a spacer digit and "06049" the sequence or serial number.
1961-62 VIN "DERIVITAVES", stamped on the engine pad as well as transmissions in 1962 only, is a SEVEN digit numeric. 1106049 would represent "1" model year, "1" a spacer digit and "06049" the sequence or serial number.
Vin derivatives started in December of 1959 for the 1960 model production and at first were SIX digits.
