    61 Engine Pad Help

I need some help in clarifying the VIN portion of the pad stamp on a January built 61. It is VIN #46XX. What would be the full stamp on this motor???? Any help is appreciated.

      Re: 61 Engine Pad Help

Bob, Thanks for the info. This car is VIN 1104587 and the Cars VIN is 04587. The first 1 is for 1961, what does the second 1 represent????

        Dave -

The first "1" represents the 1961 model year, and the second "1" is the first digit of the six-digit car VIN number; even though it's only the 4587th car built, the VIN is always six digits, and in 1961 all Corvette VINs started with "1", thus the full VIN is 104587.

            The FULL Vin Is

10867S106049. "1" the model year, "0" a spacer digit, "687" the RPO for Corvette, "S" for St. Louis, "1" a spacer digit and "06049" the sequence or serial number.

1961-62 VIN "DERIVITAVES", stamped on the engine pad as well as transmissions in 1962 only, is a SEVEN digit numeric. 1106049 would represent "1" model year, "1" a spacer digit and "06049" the sequence or serial number.

Vin derivatives started in December of 1959 for the 1960 model production and at first were SIX digits.
