I installed a new master cylinder in my 63. It is a rebuilt original unit. Is there an adjustment for the break pedal height. The pedal now seems too close to the floor.
Also the old master cylinder I removed is part number 618081 dated G 1 8. It is similar to the correct Corvette unit in size and must come from an old chevy. Does anyone know its correct usage.
Thanks in advance for any assistance.
According to the shop manual, there is a clevis adjustment at the top of the brake pedal arm. Loosen the lock nut and turn the clevis pushrod so that there is only a barely perceptible movement of the pedal before the pushrod contacts the cylinder piston, retighten the locknut.
You should probably do an initial adjustment of the brake shoes on all 4 wheels (using the star wheel) and top off the master cylinder with brake fluid before making this clevis pushrod adjustment (ie, don't try to adjust the pedal to make up for improper settings elsewhere). Then use the automatic adjustment feature... backing up and firmly applying brakes, then forward and apply, etc, numerous times to get max pedal height.
