    C2 Pitman Arm Opps

Eleven years ago I took my pitman are off the steering box. After rebuilding the box I went to install the Pitman arm and low and behold. I forgot to mark the Pitman arm and shaft relative positions. How do I install the pitman arm starting from no markings. The only mark at all is an arrow on the pitman arm. There is no mark on the shaft. HELP!!!

It's really quite simple. The pitman arm and pitman shaft are keyed with 2 narrow "flat spots" at opposing positions. Therefore, the Pitman arm can only be installed in one of 2 positions relative to the shaft. To establish the correct one, simply rotate the input shaft of the steering gear until it is in approximately the center of the steering travel position. Then, it will be obvious which of the 2 positions is correct since, with the steering gear in this position, you won't be able to install the arm in the incorrect position.
