61 T-10

I have a 60 T-10 with and build date of WM2202. W=Warner gear, M=December, 22= 22nd day, 0=1960, 2=2nd shift, so it was assembled on Dec. 22, 1960 and belongs in a 61 car. It has an aluminum tail shaft. My books say T-10's changed tail shafts from cast iron to aluminum in January 1961. Would that refer to cars built in January of 1961????

appeared in the 1957 model year - they were part of the initial production run that apparently saw its first units on April 15, 1957.

Loren, Sorry for the error, I meant cast iron vs. aluminum main case, not tailshaft. I hope that makes the question clearer.

My references indicate that the first known T-10C aluminum main case was made about November 18, 1960.

My understanding is that aluminum main cases started showing up in 1961 production around December 1 of 1960. Iron cases have been seen as late as December 1 1960. If judging I'd pass either version from S/N 3100 (SLAD Nov 22) until S/N 4300 (Dec 30 th 1960). If a late production 1961 appeared with an iron main case, I'd be inclined to pass it as well (Inventory anomaly).
