I am now on the third try at installing a headlight switch that will shut off the parking lights when the headlights are turned on. The original switch would no longer adjust the dash light brightness, so I replaced it with a supposed NOS #179 switch in the original box, I bought from a reputable company. This would not extinguish the parking lights.I bought another switch from Long Island Corvette, and this does not work either. Can someone tell me where to buy the correct headlight switch for a 1967, or can the original be rebuilt. Is there someway to test the switch/circuits BEFORE I install another one. Very, very frustating. Thanks Jim Carmain #37003

Re: 1967 Parking Lights
Jim-----
I'm going to venture a guess here: I believe that headlamp switches are a part that must be DOT-approved. If so, there may be a DOT requirement that such switches NOT extinguish the parking lamps when the headlamps are on. This may apply to SERVICE switches as well as PRODUCTION switches and may be the reason that GM changed the part number and changed the part "along the way". For this reason, it MAY be that no one now makes a switch with the original configuration.
Switch GM #1995164 MAY be a switch that incorporates the original design, or it may be the first switch to incorporate the later design. I'm not sure at the moment, but I'll be able to check later.
By the way, if you have any of the original Delco boxes that your new switches were supplied in, does it say "DOT" anywhere on the box?In Appreciation of John Hinckley- Top

Ralph------
The 68+ switch is a little bit similar to the C2 switch. However, the 68+ switch has a vacuum assembly and vacuum ports attached to the switch for the headlight actuators. So, it is very easy to differentiate from the earlier switch which lacked the vacuum provisions. In Appreciation of John Hinckley- Top

Re: 1967 Parking Lights
Jim - The original headlight switch on your '67 should have been a 1995149 contrary to the '67 AIM. The original switch should have 149 stamped on the metal plate opposite the connectors. The 1995179 is the GM replacement, but as Joe mentioned it's not clear that it functions the same and your experience is that it doesn't. I've heard that NAPA has a replacement that functions as the original but I have no experience to confirm. If I can help, give a shout. Pete- Top

Re: 1967 Parking Lights
Thx Pete....a truck switch. I may give it a try and see how it acts sometime. I have it as a spare, bought it on Ebay from a guy who said it was for a vette, but I didn't bother to check the books for the correct part. But, at $14 I am not out much if it doens't work. Thx!....Craig- Top

Re: 1967 Parking Lights
Pete - I normally research better, but I ran into this switch on Ebay about a year ago, 2 minutes before the end, and the price was so attractive, I bit. But, I have sure seen a lot of misrepresented stuff on Ebay....Craig- Top
