Re: Part number help - 9422590
Bob----
This particular fastner was a PRODUCTION-only piece and was never available in SERVICE. Unfortunately, it is among those PRODUCTION fastners for which I do not have specifications. However, obtaining replacements should really be quite simple.
First of all, this is a fastner which absolutely cannot be seen when installed in the car. So, a FUNCTIONAL replacement is all that is required. As I recall, this is either a hex head machine screw with captured flat washer or it's a pan-head phillips with captured flat washer. Either head design will function perfectly in SERVICE and whether you obtain an example with captured flat washer, or not, makes no difference. You can use a seperate flatwasher and, even if someone could see the fastner, they could not tell the difference once installed. Captured washer-type screws and bolts are a PRODUCTION convenience ONLY; they are not otherwise important.
I don't know the thread pitch or the thread size for these screws, but I would expect that they're either a #6, #8, or #10. They're length is somewhere between 1/2" and 3/4". So, go to your local Orchard Supply (or other) Hardware store and get a few of of each of the above sizes in both thread pitches for each size and of 3/4" length. Then, go home and try each one to find the one that fits the threads. If necessary, if the screws are too long, snip off the end with a pair of diagonal cutters. That's all there is to it. Let us all know what size they turn out to be.In Appreciation of John Hinckley- Top

Re: Part number help - 9422590
This screw is used on my 70 to attach the forward fiber optic harness to the console bezel. The screw is a #6, but a 6-32 only screws in about one turn. I tried a #6 sheet metal screw (pan head) and it went in about three turns before bottoming out. I am going to grind the point off and use it with a washer. It is a #6 3/8" long sheet metal screw. Thanks for your help. I hope this info is usefull.- Top

I've forgotten what material that the bezel is made of. If it's metal (or plastic with metal inserts for the female threads), the the screw will likely be a 6-32 machine screw. HOWEVER, if it's plastic, then the screw will likely be a 6-20 self-tapping screw. I really don't think that this was any sort of an "oddball" thread pitch. In Appreciation of John Hinckley- Top
