1108498 Starter - Whats it for?

I have an original starter 1108498 dated 2J11 with a solenoid # 1114362. Does anybody know what is came off of? I will probably turn it in for a core unless it is of use to somebody. Thanks Shane

At the moment all I can tell you is that this starter number was never originally used on a Corvette. Later, I'll probably be able to tell you what it was originally used on. The chances are great, though, that it was never used on what would generally be regarded these days as a "restorable" car.

GM used a plethora of different starter part numbers, although there were really only a few distinct starter variants that affected interchangeability. Usually, commercial starter rebuilders consider that most of the starter numbers within a certain basic variant are functionally the same. So, if you go down to purchase a rebuilt starter for a Corvette, you may get one that originally resided on a Buick. Same thing for alternators.

It began life on either a Pontiac, Firebird, Tempest or Ventura II w/350CID...
