    vacuun advance can.

Is it possible the NAPA/ECHLIN VC 1810 can is discontimued? The NAPA dealer here in Montreal says that is what his system says. Thanks.

Rick, I was able to get one in Denver a couple of weeks ago but they had to order one in from another state. Paul

I bought 2 of them recently. Ditto that they had to be special ordered, from 2 different states no less. Sorry, my spare is not for sale

What application is this vacuum advance unit used on?

It first showed up on '64/'65 SHP/FI and was also used on L-79 engines through '67. Since this can provides 16 (crank) degrees of advance at 8" it is the best can to use for any engine that idles at 12" or less vacuum, so it is a good retrofit for any SHP BB or SB engine that did not have this can, or any engine with an aftermarket performance cam. I retrofited my '63 L-76 with an original Delco ("236") back in the late sixties to improve the idle quality and stability. The 15" OEM can didn't work well with the Duntov cam, which only idled at 12". The basic rule of thumb for non-emission engines with full manifold vacuum to the vacuum can is to have a can that provides full vacuum advance at least 2" less than idle vacuum.

Looks like there's a virtual run on them! They're manufactured by Dana Controls, and I believe these are now purchased by GM and sold under the Delco name. I also think they are sold under the Borg-Warner brand. They can be identifiied by the code "B28" on the top of the mounting bracket.

Yes Duke...there has been a run on them and it's all thanks to your great advice. You really do help out and the Corvette world is a better place with you in it. Thanks for contributing.
