The washer on my 63 is D.O.A., I checked the diaphram and it looks ok, however I couldn't see or feel it moving when I pushed the button. Does anyone know if I need to remove the whole unit or what may be broken? I assume I should see or feel something if its working. The shop manual didn't seem to be much help on this one. Thanks all!!!

Re: windshield washer
Jim, I just got my 67's pump working. I renewed all my windshield washer hoses to and from the pump and installed a (Dr.Rebuild)pump kit. At the same time checked/cleaned my contacts, springs and cleaned them up after removal of the cover plate that faces the distributor.
My diaphragm (boot) looked in good condition. I cleared out the spray nozzles of any obstructions. So before I did anything I knew I had an unrestricted flow from the bottle to the nozzles.
I primed the pump manually (used an eye dropper)from the discharge side to nozzles. I had already known the suction to the pump was clear.
Nothing happened until I had my wife sit in the car with the wipers running slow and had her press in and release the the button several times. She started working but it took some help. I would have to say my pump had not been used in several years. But if the wipers work and the boot or diaphragm look good you can get it working like I did.
If you do get it running just exercise the pump about once a month or when you wash the car. These are old cars and I've found that some of the times existing parts still work just need to be used more often. Good luck,grr#33570- Top
