I have minor black smoke coming out of the tail pipes so I believe that the carb needs adjustment which I've tried several times to do with no luck. What is the best method/sequence for tweaking a Carter WCFB single four barrel. The carb has recently been overhauled and the 283cid/230hp engine idles and revs smoothly. Inputs/suggestions are very much appreciated.
Thanks,
Mike
Tell us about your spark plugs. Are any black and sooty?..........The idle air adjust regulates only thre QUANTITY of fuel-air mix not the ratio of fuel to air MIXTURE. You may have improper jet/metering rod sizes or there may be problems with the load-enrichment mechanism.
Use them for about 500 miles or so and then give them a good reading. That'll tell you if you're rich on fuel. I guess an expensive measured exhaust analysis would work as well.
