    C2 Exhaust Tip Angle

The body is off my '65 roadster and I just installed a new exhaust system from Allen's. It was a pleasure to bolt up - no aggravations of any kind.

Achieving the proper center-to-center spacing of the exhaust tips was fairly easy and I expect the tips to be reasonably centered once the body and rear valance panel are re-mated with the chassis.

My question is that the tips are not parallel with the frame rails --they are angled slightly outboard.

Should the tips be parallel with the framerails & centerline of the chassis??
Or do they normally angle slightly outward?

If I need to bend them inboard, I'd much rather deal with it now.
    Thanks in advance

They should be parallel to the vehicle centerline, and centered in the bezels. All of this is tough to get right until you install the panel, and it can take a bit of tweaking both the muffler hangers and the tailpipe to muffler connection. You can tell it's not easy by seeing all the Corvettes running around with the exhaust tips at cockeyed angles.

Thanks Duke: Since I went for the "correct" welded tailpipe-muffler connection, I don't have this adjustment point available. I'm not sure where/how I can safely bend things to bring the s/s tips into parallelism with the vehicle C/L.
I'm fearful of tearing the oval muffler end panels out of their crimped seams.

Maybe I'll have to be happy with a slightly "walleye"'d condition.

You'd think that Allen's weld-up jig would control this most visible characteristic.

        Mike,

I would do as Duke says, wait until you have things back together and see how the valance lines up. If you just need a little adjustment at the end of the muffler with the exhaust extension off put a muffler/exhaust pipe spreader in the outlet end of the muffler so you can apply preasure without distorting the pipe and heat the pipe with a torch until you can get some movement. I had to do this once to get proper fit on a 70 I once had.
