    1960 VIN location

Regards to all. A friend of mine has a 60 Corvette and he has two questions...
One is how was the VIN plate attached to the steering column?
The other question is where, if at all was the VIN stamped on the frame?
    Thanks in advance,
    Anthony

    Anthony,

The VIN plate question will best be answered by someone with more knowledge - but I believe that they were attached with pop rivets. The frame number though is definitely stamped into the top of the frame approximately below the drivers seat. My 56 has two stamps located about 8 inches apart in that location. The numbers can sometimes be viewed with a mirror and flashlight. Steve

VIN is spotwelded; frame location is twice on the top of the driver's side frame rail, somewhere under the door.

Spotweld to steering column is correct; I have never seen the frame numbers on my 1960. Based on what I read, I would have to take the body off to see them.

Thanks for the info, I'll forward it to my friend. I guess it's worth a try to look on the frame rail for the VIN. The spot welding of the VIN plate to the column makes sense after what he tells me about his plate, no rivets. He was just curious about that. He has a "non numbers car" and is not into the "NCRS thing", but was curious about his frame.
          Thanks again,
          Anthony

No, a mirror, some steel wool (or ?)

and some solvent should be good enough to get a reading. We did it on Chip Miller's Le Mans car.......
