Having read many posts regarding temp senders and being aware of 71 being a sort of rare one I thought some of you 71 owners would be interested in what I have found. After much searching I have found a TU4 Wells piece that has the proper single post end like in the 71. Now I have good news and bad news. I have yet to get one that is accurate (bad news) but I returned two this evening and found that the price has dropped from 7.99 to 4.59(good news). Now if you have a good relationship with your local Autozone you can order in a six pack and try them out. Good luck Paul

Addendum
The TU4 isn't a temp switch. If it were, you would get no reading at all, and in a high temp situation the gauge would suddenly peg full hot.
You need a sender with approximately 700 ohms resistance at room temp. If they have an assortment of senders to hunt through check them out with a digital ohm meter.
You may be able to use a TU5, which is known to work, by carefully grinding off the head of the button to accept the pin type connector. If absolute originality takes a back seat to function, simply change connectors on your wire.- Top

Re: Addendum- EBAY temp unit
There currently is a temp sending unit on Ebay for sale. I asked the seller about resitance at room temp .. (I KNOW THAT THE INCORRECT "REPALCEMENT UNITS" BEING SOLD HAVE APPROX 400 OHM AT 80F) ..WOW did he go off the deep end .. I know these units have a defined operational range but I am so tired of hearing about correct units that do not show at least something close to correct readings at room temp which is in the area of 600/700 Ohms ......
some people will do anything for a buck !!!!!!- Top
