Would someone please refresh my memory reguarding voltage drop across a ballast resistor. I know there were (2) available with different resistance values. I believe mine to be an original I just want to take some measurements to verify that it is the correct one for my car. The car in question is a 64 L84 fuel car. I seem to remember a voltage reading can be taken off the coil and should be something below 12V. How much I don't know, so if someone has these values I can measure with a voltmeter please advise. Thanks in advance. Blake

Re: 64 L84 ballast resistor
The best check is the resistance across the resistor. The early cars had about a .3 ohm resistor, but if memory serves yours should be around 1.5 ohms. This will give you a nominal value of maybe 8 volts at the coil. The resistance value changes with heat, so there is no exact figure to be looking for.- Top

Re: 64 L84 ballast resistor
All '64 SHP/FI engines were equipped with the 0.3 ohm ballast and 091 coil, and all '64 250/300 HP engines were equipped with the 1.8 ohm ballast and 087 coil.
The best way to determine which ballast you have is to disconnect one lead and measure the resistance at room temp with a digital multimeter.
