    C2 build date.

The Tech manual for 66 says the body date on the trim tag is not the final assembly date. The trim tag on my 66 indicates "F07" which I belive means February 7,1966. The "Corvette Birthday Book" Indicates my VIN number in the range that was built on Feb 7,1966. Is this normal, or is something fishy? The body is a St. Louis body. I bought this car as a driver, but I'm curious about what's correct and what isn't. Do they mean it is not ALWAYS the final assembly date but could be?

    Thanks

    Re: C2 build date.

    Rich -

The assembly date in the "Birthday Book" is an approximation, based on extrapolating back from known last VIN numbers for each month of production; it's an excellent piece of work, but it's not precise-to-the-day data. I'd say yours looks fine.

      Errors in the birthday book

      Rich,

As John says, the birthday book provides an estimate of the final
assembly date. A fellow member of my local NCRS chapter has a K21 (July 21) date on the trim tag on his 66, and the birthday book says the car's birthday was July 20. Can't be.

The birthday book undergoes period revision based on new data. My friend plans to send a photo of his trim tag to the birthday book revision team, which may lead to at least a one-day change in the birthday dates for some 66 cars, i.e., those built in July.

The birthday book says that my car came off the assembly line on July 20, and my trim tag says K20. If the birthday book dates for late 66 cars are revised based on my friends K21 vs. July 20 date discrepency, I suspect it will affect the estimated birthday of my car as well, but I doubt this correction would propagate back into previous months, although I really don't know how the revision team makes these decisions and calculations.
