My iron Powerglide seems to "slip" at low speeds when thoroughly warmed up. Is there an external band adjustment? I have two C1 maintenance books, and neither of then mentions any adjustment at all. One even says somthing to the effect that Powerglides are difficult and complex, requiring special tools, so take it to a trans shop! This same book has exhaustive instructions on rebuilding 4-speed trans, positraction rears, and fuel injection units!

Re: C1 Iron Powerglide adjustment?
Dave, There is an external band adjustment, and you should be able to find the adjustment in the passenger car service maunal. If you do not have one, try your local library. You will find that they usually have service manuals going back into the late 40's. You can find the pages you need and copy the pages to take home with you. As for the Castiron Powerglide being difficult to overhaul, I would take exception to that. I overhauled mine and found the transmission to be a very simple transmission to overhaul. I bought a Video which walks you through it step-by-step and completed the job in one day. If you want to rebuild yours in the future, you are welcome to borrow my tape. It is lent out right now but if you let me know when you need it I will send it to you when it comes in. You will find it very hard to find someone in a transmission shop who knows anything about a Castiron PG, as most of the people who have worked on them in the past are long retired. I was prices in the $750-$900 range with me removing and installing the transmission!

Re: C1 Iron Powerglide adjustment?
Dave! As John said you can easly find the band ajustments. All CAST iron year PG's have the same Two band ajustments !
BUT====
1.The rear band, you need to take the side cover off to get to it
2. the front band which is on the out side of the main case L/S haveing a lock nut, loosen the lock nut turn the bolt right to tigthen hand TIGHT and back off one and a half turns.The rear band would likly be OK.
To set the shifting point, disconnect the trans shifting rod from the carb, Hold your gas padel down, and then adjust the shifting rod so that it just goes into the carb hole.
Am the one that made the video.- Top
