Hello, I am nearing body drop on my 56 and am having problems routing the fuel line from the tank to the pump. On sheet 1.00, section 8 of the AIM, there is a detail "C" that shows a clip #115189. My car didn't have that clip and the AIM is so difficult to read that I can't really tell how the line is routed/fastened there. The rubber connector hose between the fuel line and the pump is uncomfortably close to the exhaust manifold and I need to get the proper setup. Does anyone have a better detail of that area? I suspect that it would be impossible to get a photo of the installation with the body on, but if anyone has a photo of the correct installation I would appreciate it. Thanks in advance, Steve

Interestingly enough, in my older
1957 AIM, page 8 is printed on TWO sheets of paper, and you can actually SEE the clip. I suspect the committee on saving paper won another round. The problem is that the whole drawing was redrawn and revised on 11-26-56 anyway, so maybe the clip was not there. I think you're going to have to hope that Jim Frakes or one of the other original owners jumps in here. Good luck.- Top

Re: 56 fuel line routing
Steve, Just checked my early '56 there is a single clip that holds
the fuel line only .The hole for the clip is about 1 1/2" inward
from the hole for the brake line junction box.
Also about 8" towards the rear from that 1st clip there is a double
clip that holds both the fuel line and brake line.
Hope this helps. Rob- Top

Re: 56 fuel line routing
Rob, Thanks for taking the time to check your car for me. I just went out and looked. I have the hole for the clip about 1 1/2 inches inboard of the brake junction block. Can you tell if the clip is the type that snaps into the hole - like the double clips for the fuel/brake lines? Or is it held with a nut and bolt? If I can figure out the correct clip, it will be a matter of playing with the line position after the body and fuel tank are in. Thanks again Steve- Top

Re: 56 fuel line routing
Steve, Your welcome, but it was no big deal for me to check as
my car is on stands and awaiting parts again. If the jobbers
would tell me they are out of stock when I order
(and ask if parts are in stock)this car would spend more
time on the road, but they don't.
It's a snap in clip with the base being the same as the
other double clips that hold both the fuel and brake lines.
This forward most clip has a single line holder that will just
accept the single fuel line.
This clip I have looks like the double clips but only has
the fuel line side holder. Perhaps you can take a double
line holder and modify it. Rob- Top

Re: 56 fuel line routing
Rob, I read you loud and clear on the parts thing. My hold up has been the body work - but I'm about to get past that I hope. I believe I have the clip you describe. It came in a 56 clip assortment and I complained to the vendor that it wasn't the required double clip - OOOPs. Thanks again for all your help - I'll try to get this finished tomorrow. Steve- Top

Re: 56 fuel line routing
Most 56's had a clip for this location. Beware that many vendors offer a clip that is different from the original one. Also, some very late 56's had a bolt and clip. This may have been a running change, to offer a more secure mounting procedure due to the tension of the connection of the flex line with the gas line tubing.- Top

Re: 56 fuel line routing
Mark, Thanks for the response. My car was built in late June (E56S003190) and I'm not sure how that fits in the "early/late" scheme of things. I would feel a lot better with a bolted clip since failure of the clip allows the fuel line to ride up and get very close to the exhaust manifold. I'd be curious what 57s and later used. Thanks again Steve- Top
