    '67 clock

Does anyone know where I can pick up a standard movement clock for '67; the car currently has a quartz clock which gets full deduction for judging. I have found places that rebuild clocks only. Thanks.

    Re: '67 clock .. why bother ??

you certainly can (and should) do what you want ... but me .. I prefer a clock that works, holds time correctly and doesn't drain my battery ... so if you loose a few points at an NCRS event .. you loose a few points .. but gain the pleasure of having something that works !!! Good luck

Thanks John. Looks like they'll be able to convert my quartz back to mechanical movement. There'll be plenty of time for quartz movement, radial tires and all the rest after I've satisfied myself with the judging process.
        Regards,
        Ray

Re: '67 clock .. just my thought .. final thought

          Ray,
I for one certainly do not want to discourage you from doing what you need to do for judging preparation ... I have found that after 30 years of owning driving, wrecking, restoring and even loosing a corvette in a divorce that I am going back to the basics of why I love these cars ,, and that is to simply drive them .. I can understand what you are going through I have been there ... I owned my first Corvette when I was 17 and own two today .. neither one is going to be judged even though the 68 has had a frame off and the 71 is basically an LS5 23k mile car .. they are being driven .. if a part needs replaced and I can find it "at a reasonable price" at a swap meet then it will be repalced as an OEM piece if not the local NAPA is just fine with me ...
Some local NCRS guys say I am crazy .. still others say that I might be the first to have moved up to a new level in the sport ..... by returning to what made these machines so great ........ and that is the pure pleasure of driving and enjoying them and not worring about points deductions. I was at Carlise this year and have met more people then ever before who are just tired of working so hard to get things just right for judging only to be dissapointed .. they are now "building" their cars for the road .. to be driven and enjoyed .
bottom line neither way is correct nor it is wrong

            Dale (Abagail?),
I hear what you're saying and understand your position very well. I have several "collector" cars (not just corvettes), some are drivers and some are not. I am fortunate to make a good enough living to be able to "have my cake and eat it too." This particular car, at this point, is not being planned for a daily driver. It may become one eventually, and certainly will be at least a Sunday driver when the enjoyment of just looking at it (to me these cars are artwork as well as transportation) fades. I'm not so worried about depreciating the value of the car; I could have bought 20 of these with the money I've lost in the stock market the past couple of years. At some point though it would be satisfying to me to have a panel of "experts" tell me that this is indeed how this car rolled off the assembly line; then when I drive it, I'll have the "original" experience. I certainly respect the various opinions regarding how people enjoy their cars and irrespective of the differences, we all share one thing in common...we love our cars.
            Best regards,
            Ray

Long Island Corvette supply sold me an original movement which was fairly easy to install myself. That said, I am in total agreement with Patrick's philosphy. Drive the hell out of these cars and fix 'em when they bust. Unlike a Monet painting, these things are not one-of-a-kind and everything on them is replaceable. Take a page from the book of the guys racing and busting up truly unique and valuable vehicles at various historic races. Some of our fellow NCRS guys are placing way too much importance on these cars and not having as much fun as they should. Nothing says you've arrived like not caring if you scratch or crash one of these cars. I have to laugh at another recent post where everything except a hermetically sealed garage is suggested for winter storage.

Correction - I am in agreement with John's philosophy. My lousy attention to detail makes me and my car a poor candidate for judging.
