C3 - 1968 invoices

There is a guy on e-bay selling original shipping invoices for 1968 cars that were delivered from Union Chevrolet in Memphis, Tenn. Item # 1868179991. He wants your VIN to check the 40+ he says he has. I was thinking of sending him mine. Do any of the other members of the board see this as risky? I am uncomfortable doing this.

I take it you do not know where the car was orginally sold from .. nor do you have any solid documentation .. IF he is truely offering this as orginal and the some how "doctors them up" for your car and sells them to you as same "orginal units" .. sounds a lot like fraud .. through the mail .. which is not a good position for him to be in should one press charges .. So I think there is little chance that he would risk going to jail over a few bucks .. but the call is yours ..

I don't have any firm documentation on my car, just noticed his listing on E-bay and thought I would ask him for a list of the VINs he had. I did not get the impression he was doctoring the paperwork, sounds more like he has a bunch of records from the dealer and was trying to capitalize on it.

Of course if he has original paperwork it has only value to the current owner of the car. He has a reserve on the bid, so I am not sure what value he puts on the invoice.

My underlying question is am I in any danger by providing my VIN over the internet to a stranger???

He also has 70 for the 67 models, but I know my car is not from this dealer. It sounds like he somehow got all the paperwork from this dealer and is now trying to profit off of it....I guess if it were me, and I knew my car came from this dealer, I would at least inquire about my VIN. However, the chances of your care coming from this dealer are probably remote....Craig

The VIN numbers of any 68+ Corvette are not really all that "confidential". If someone wants to get VIN numbers, all they have to do is walk up to your car (or any other 68+ Corvette) and read it off the plate on the windshield pillar. In that case, they get a description of the car AND the car's license plate number to go along with it.
