    C2 Under car hardware revisited

I just removed the nut plates and the seat belt corner reinforcements from the floor of my 66 roadster and here is what I found ( by the way the body is an AO Smith):

    * front seat nut plate - green zinc chromate

    * back seat nut plates - non plated but badly corroded

    * seat belt corner reinforcements - badly coroded, did not appear to

be zinc or cad plated except for the weled bolt on the inner ones.

bolt and surrrounding areas appear to be plated.

    * spacer plates between seat u-brackets and floor - green zinc

    chromate
JM says front nut palte to be semi gloss black, rear plates to be natural and nothing on seat belt reinforcements. Since car is to be judged, I'm following JM finishes and Joe Lucia's previous comments that the seat belt rein are to be black phosphate. I had to purchase one replacement seat belt reinforcement and it was black phosphate.

If you have an AOS body, why not do it the way it was done from the factory. Its time that judges learn the difference.

Dave, The comment from Wayne is correct as is your car. The front seat mounting brace should be green phosphate. And this would be true unless you had a very late AO smith body. The manual is incorrect. As I judge I share these inaccurate findings in the manual with the owners. After all I don't want to see anyone revise something that is correct and make it wrong to agree with the error in the manual.

I forgot to mention that your body is AO Smith since this finish is different for General built bodies.

          Wayne/Gene,

My body is an early 66. I plan to finish the front seat plates in zinc phosphate (green appearance very much like zinc chromate), the rear seat nut plates in natural and the seat corner reinforcements in black phosphate. Manual says nothing about seat belt reinforcements -- going from Joe Lucia's previous comments.

Dave the seat belt braces are stamped and drawn sheet metal, no finish from what I have witnessed. This would be true for all four pieces. The cables and loops are plain steel with the balls being stainless.
