    67 Tri-power dieseling.

We went for a ride in the mountains today....the 435 really loves that cool weather, and you feel the crispness and power from the sidepipes. When we stopped for lunch the engine dieseled and shuddered when shut off. It did the same thing when we got home....almost like coughing up through the center carb. Any ideas as to why? Thanks for the help.

The most likely cause is that the throttle plates are not closing enough upon shut down. Either the throttle stop is set too high or the linkage is binding and not returning the plates to a closed position. With a lumpy cam, you may have the throttle plates open in order to get a decent idle. Contributing causes may be that the engine is running hot due to retarded timing etc. Advancing the timing will speed the engine up and allow you to reduce the throttle plate openning. Check the vacuum advance to make sure that it is advancing timing sufficiently.

My guess is that it could be something as simple as pump gas in that 435. I can't get by with it in any of mine.
