C-1 Hood clearance

I have a hood clearance problem on my 62/300hp, and am not sure if it is because of some previous "Bubbazation", or what. The stock aircleaner rubs on the underneath side of the hood which of course messes it up. I know that before I owned the car the guy I purchased it from damaged the front end when he picked on a road grader and lost. It appears to me that the front has been replaced from about the front fenderwells forward. I'm wondering if it could have been improperly shimmed/installed and be causing this situation. Additionally,(and this is where "Bubba" got involved), the intake manifold was replaced with an aftermarket unit with a 10,000scfm (give or take a few), Holley carb. Is there a dimension from the manifold mounting surface to the area where the base of the carb mounts that I could check and see if this is the problem?

On my 56 with the stock C.I. intake (1X4) and the WCFB and a 61/62 air cleaner, I have 1" clearance measured at the rear of the cleaner to the hood.

Thanks all for your responses. Joe, it's of interest to note that you mentioned that you had 1" of clearance between hood and AC at the rear since that is exactly where my "rub" is.
