    C2 - Radio

I have 64 AM-FM Radio that will play on an off. I have had it out and check by a friend and it worked. We put it in, and it did not work at first.
But when I started it up a few days later, on my way to a show it worked. When I started the car to go home it would not work.

I'm looking for some names of reliable vendors to send it to.

    Thanks in advance.

If you are looking for a top to bottom rebuild of the radio then Charles Siegfried in California is the guy. It will run you around $400 but the radio will be better than new when he is done. I have used Bill Kromer in Michigan for the more normal cleaning and repair. He has my 61 radio currently and the "tune up" will run $150. Both are Hemmings and Driveline advertisers. If you need contact information feel free to email me.

      Terry,

I had a radio like that in my 67. Mine would light up but no sound. Then it would suddenly play for a while. Next time I tried it it might not. Turned out to be a break in the speaker wire at the connector to the radio.

        Before you...

jump to conclusions on sending the radio out, how about a little more 'See Dick, See Jane' on what you mean when you say "doesn't work"....

When you pull the radio chassis for bench testing you leave three areas of potential pitfall behind:

        (1) The car's power harness to the radio.
        (2) The speaker.
        (3) The antenna.

Faults in any of these areas can generate the EXACT symptoms (no sound at the speaker). One that happens FREQUENTLY is the antenna lead-in wire is fractured (especially if the carpet's ever been replaced exposing the lead wire to being stepped on/fractured). In AM mode, the radio will appear stone cold DEAD with a bad antenna connection (check by swapping in a known good 'cheapie' antenna from Wal-Mart/Radio Shack at $5)....
