Can anyone please tell me what the rule of thumb is for date codes on electrical parts such as voltage regulators? Can I use a J6 (sept 66) part for a Jan production car?
I believe that the NCRS/NCCB standard is still the "6 month rule". So, if you're talking about a January, 1967-built car, then the September, 1966-built regulator would fall well within that range. In actual practice, I think that you would find that the time interval bewteen the manufacture of the regulator and the car's build would be less than 3 months, but I don't think that 3 months would be unusual, at all. I'd say that you've got just about what you need.
