C3 upper speed boot

Any details to identify and prove a true GM upper shifter boot PN 3977797?
I've had repros before and just purchased the "real thing" off an Ebay auction,but no bag,tags,numbers.
All stitching correct to the RHS.
Is there any stitch count spacing unique to an original?
Noticed that the rectangular base ring has indentations on the folded leather where I assume the attach screws secure to...is that GM?
Looks original,but leather a bit firm,as never fitted.
My old original was much softer,but again 32+ years old.
GM asks 160 bucks for these today.

Jim - I am looking at an original GM leather boot I bought through GM back in the late 80's for about $25. It is in the original pouch I received it in from GM when ordered through my buddy in parts, and it is a padded tan mailing envelope with NO gm part numbers, but the pouch did have a packing invoice I have long ago lost that had the part number information. The leather is rather soft, not stiff. There are 4 depressions in the ring you mention, two on the front, two on the back. I will take some photos for you, as they say, a picture is worth a thousand words....Craig
