Sequence of '58 dash area assembly

Does installing the following items in this order make sense?

    1. Dash Pad
    2. Guage cluster
    3. Windshield
    4. Wiper transmissions and motor
    5. Radio and speaker
    6. Defroster ducts and hose
    7. Wiring (main harness)
    8. Console plate
    9. Heater

Also, I'm thinking about doing all of this BEFORE my final body drop, mainly because I'll be able to stand in the engine compartment and have nice access through the big hole where the heater goes and the big hole I cut at the drivers side foot area. Is there a reason NOT to do this and instead wait until AFTER the body is on the frame? Thanks for any help!

Re: Sequence of '58 dash area assembly

I just completed painting my 61' body off the frame, and was advised to assembly the painted body back on the frame as soon as the paint buffed. Reason given was to prevent any stress to the body that would cause stress cracks that may be introduced while being on the paint stand, rather than the frame. Installing components will be a little harder, but may be worth.

      Mike -
I'm just finishing up a '60. My method was to put the body back on the restored rolling chassis upon completion of painting. I would move the wiring harnesses up in your order and move the windshield down in the order. You definately cannot put the defroster ducts in until all the wiring and especially the wiper transmission cables are in place.
It really went fairly easy for me. The biggest problems I had was the inerds of the doors and getting the windhield assembly back together.
      Good luck.

Thanks Dennis and Bob. I painted the body about three months ago and got busy with work, so I think I missed the window of getting the body on quickly! Good idea about windshield later and wiring sooner. I'll do that. Thanks guys!

          What happened to John259's response???

John 259 posted a good response, which I unfortunately didn't write down, and it's gone! Not even a "Message deleted by poster." I wonder what happened.
