    1958 heads with extra holes

    I am wondering what NCRS would say about a 1958 Corvette that showed up
    with correctly dated 1958 heads that had the three accessory holes drilled
    in the end. Some 1958 and 1959 passenger cars had an air pump (for the air
    ride suspension system) mounted at the end of the head.

    Have we ever seen any 1958 Corvettes with these heads on them? Does the JG
    mention anything about this. Would a deduction be made?

    Are there flat mounting bosses for these holes, like the factory '69 and later heads have? I've not seen everything there has ever been to see and that would certainly be a new one on me. Chevrolet had stand-off accessory brackets for everything prior to '69, but this would certainly be a very rare exception. I would think that just having such a pair of heads would warrant some photos should this ever come up in restoration chat.

      Yes, there are flat surfaces like the 69 and later heads. I originally thought that the heads on my friends NOS 1958 long block were later model heads because of this. We pulled the valve covers and checked, 770 heads dated April of 1958.

          I thought this issue came up at a meet we had last weekend. I didnt do mechanical judging but I remember some talk about holes in the heads and the pulled the valve covers and the dates were correct. I will try and find some more info.
