The complete casting number is 3748770, dated D 24 8. I could be off a day or two on the casting date, but I am absolutely sure about the casting number. The heads are staggered hole for the valve covers.
This was the first set of heads like this that I had ever seen. I think I got my information about the air pump mounting from Colvin's book Chevrolet by the Numbers , 1955-1959. Apparently they are a fairly rare item, as air ride suspension wasn't a big hit in 1958 or 1959. I understand that some service replacement 770 heads had these holes in them as well.
I think I will go out and take some pictures of these heads (I used to have some, but can't find them now) so everyone can see what I am talking about. Maybe there is a Restorer article in this topic.
