Terminology....
most of what you get in 'standard' Chevy documentation (AIM/CSM--Assembly Instruction Manual, Chassis Service Manual) is properly called 'wiring diagram' information. This shows you what color code/gauge wire ran from point X to point Y in the car as it was originally designed/built. The wiring diagram is about all that was needed for service technicians back then as they had ready access to off-the-shelf, 'known good' replacement components, so troubleshooting and fault isolation was as simple as making sure all was hooked up as originally designed and swapping 'modules' until the problem was fixed.
BUT, when these cars go through multiple owners over time, have shade tree mechanics customize this/that, you reach a point where you can't trust anything to be as it was originally designed/built and there's a valid 'need to know' the internal specifics of each/every functional building block/module in the overall system circuitry in order to devise proper tests to confirm/deny functionality in order to effect repair.
In electrical engineering jargon, we call this a 'schematic diagram' because it opens the 'kimono' of all the 'black boxes' used and shows us what does what in FULL detail. This information WAS publish for your car! Unfortunately, the process of giving full electrical schematics didn't start (to my knowledge) before the middle of Shark era, so those of us with earlier Corvettes are pretty much forced to work in the dark.
If it's full electrical schematics you're looking for, you need to dig up a copy of Publication ST-359-XX, where XX=the year of your car. These popup on eBay from time to time and 'may' be still available from independent antique auto documentation houses like Helm Inc. from Detroit, MI.
If you simply need to know what went where from a cable interconnect view, then the AIM or CSM for your year Corvette should suffice and get the job done for you!- Top
