Hi - I just completed the restoration of the inside of my deck lid and painted the hardware that was not to be black oxide. I have always been very particular about painting bolts/nuts but I have not been able to find the secret to tightening them without scratching the paint.
Last night I tried something that worked really well in protecting the paint on the bolts and nuts. I cut two 1" square pieces of freezer ziploc bags and placed them on the socket. The plastic bags allowed me to tighten the hardware without any scuffs or scratches. I also sprayed the bolts and nuts with a paint adhesion enhancer that is normally sprayed on plastic before painting. I now have a perfrect restoration to the inside of my deck lid that meets NCRS specs.
Thanks
Lee
