Has anyone experienced problems with "repo" accelerator springs not being strong enough to return carburetor linkage all the way? Could my linkage be hanging-up between the carb and the accelerator pedal? I've been unable to notice any binding. Could it be as simple as not having the adjusting swivel set in the proper position? I'm completely puzzled as to what my problem is! Suggestions please!
There is no doubt that the Repro springs are not as strong as the originals!
I use the correct green spring on my 60 for showing the car only, I have another that I have cut a few coils off of for daily driving.
Jon, I agree with the fact the repro springs are not as strong as originals as experienced with my 62, so I found one comparable in size and painted it green (obviously not for judging). I also found that the rod attached to the carb was rubbing on the edge of the ignition shielding and corrected this with some bending of the various brackets that hold all the shielding parts in place. Just a possibility.
If it's a 2x4, the "U"-shaped saddle on the front carb lever that the secondary carb actuating rod passes through is a frequent reason for the rear carb not returning to the closed-throttle idle position. If the "ears" on the saddle aren't both square and parallel, the rod can bind as it moves fore-aft through the holes in the "saddle" and prevent the primary linkage from returning to idle position.
It,s not a 2x4. It is a 3191s wcfb. After reading Chucks post, I decided to take a closer look around the dist. shielding and linkage. When I unhooked the linkage and pulled on it gently, I noticed a stiff old ground strap snagging on the edge of the shielding. An easy fix of loosing and position adjustment. Hope thats it! It got dark on me, and I decided to test it out tomorrow.
