    Ignition Shielding

I recently aquired a box of misc. igniton shields for Corvettes. I have been able to identify all but a couple of pieces of lower horizontal shielding. They appear to be made of aluminum. Does anybody know if there ever was any Corvette shields made from aluminum?
    Thanks,
    Lynn

    Lynn----

I don't know of any pieces of the Corvette radio interference ignition shielding that were manufactured from aluminum during the 63-82 period. Some C1s might have been, though.

Referring to the heat shields that are underneath the RF shields? They are galvanized tin and look close to aluminum. Put a magnet on them and see if it sticks. They have the profile of a squat barn roof.

No these are not the heat shields around the spark plugs. They appear to be like the horizontal shields over the exhaust manifolds. They were with some shields that i did identify as being 50's ignition shields, but all the other pieces were chrome plated. These parts are stamped, and they are non-magnetic. I am sure they are aluminum, and I have never seen this type of shielding on anything but a Corvette. The box of shielding I aquired was from a Chevrolet dealer and billed as being vette parts. I do have pictures if anyone is interested please email me at corvettelynn70@cs.com.
        Thanks guys,

Not positive, but I believe that some C1 ignition shielding was stainless steel. Most was chrome, though.

            Lynn -

No C1 or C2 engine shielding (heat or ignition) was ever made from aluminum; spark plug heat shields were galvanized steel, and ignition shielding was various combinations of stainless steel and chrome-plated steel.
