Last week there was a thread about ZR-1 windshields....I did some investigation and found out that there were several design changes on the GM drawings and specs. In 1984 14030204 was soft ray glass in 4.3 mm thickness. In 1990 GM changed the spec to 5.4 mm thickness and also changed the lower corner radius on the paintband to hide dash pad gaps...this changed the number to 10143526.
In 1991 part 10172302 was identical in design to the 10143526 but was made from EZKool solar glass. On July 25, 1991 part 101722302 had a monogram location change and the left and right radius's were corrected to be even.On May 1993 the tolerance of the part was tightened to facilitate robotics. There were also three engineering changes about adding a windshield label, changing the wiper blade arm assembly and changing a screw in the wiper assembly but none affected the windshield.
On the ZR-1 windshields there was an Oct 1991 change to make the masked area from 10" down to 5"...this part was made from Koolof, coated solar glass..and was part number 10172489...although the masked change was in a PAA, temporary production approval, many parts made it into production and then it was switched back...so it looks like the mask will be one of those NCRS hot buttons in the future. The last time LOF ran any product was late 1999...and then they disassembled the coater and closed the Sherman Texas plant that made the ZR-1 windshield.
I hope this can be verified and used some day for the judging manuals....
