    C2 correct compressor ?

I have a 1966 small block with air. The compressor needs to be repaired. I am trying to keep the car as close to stock as practical and would like to rebuild the existing compressor but would like to know if it is the correct model for this year. Otherwise a simple rebuilt exchange is probably more cost efficient. The compressor says Model 6550113.

I suspect the muffler (ac)is not correct. the ass'bly manual shows two valves on the top, mine has 2 valves at 180 deg horizontally opposed

The protect-o-plate says the car is Feb 66

    Hi Randy,
The compressor should have a date code on the rear plate in the area where the muffler bolts to the compressor. Sometimes you can read it if its still on the car by forcing some modeling clay into the area and carefully pealing it off and read it by holding it up to a mirror

Randy - I expect it's the original one for the car from the model #. The label has information as to the month (mm), day (dd), year (y, last digit of the year so should be a 5 or 6, and the shift (s, being 1,2,or 3). The compressor is your everyday A6 but the label makes it unique to and the '66 Corvette is one of the vehicles. If it is the original one you'll probably want to get it rebuild and be sure to have them not disturb the label. Pete

        Page,
Thanks for the tip. Sure enough there it is. Can you translate for me

top of end plate says J267

middle says 6555302 then underneath R14

Again this is on my 66 327 and if not the correct compressor I'll just go with an exchange unit. The car is Feb 66 production. The foil label just has model number 6550113.
I've noticed the Ecklers catalog shows a different model number for replacement foil stickers for 66 compressors.

          Hi Randy,
As Peter stated the 6550113 foil label is correct for 1965 & 66 Corvettes. The A6 compressor was used on lots of GM cars. The foil label should have a date as Peter suggested. The 6555302 number cast into the rear plate is the casting number for that piece and is correct for a 1966 and many other GM compressors. The J267 would be Oct 26,67 which is past the production of your car. The R14 is probably a mode number. I would check that date on the foil label. The rear plate could have been changed during a rebuild and as you know, pretty hard to see. Pargon's new catalog says that there repro tags have been redesigned and are identical. Also, what is the body build code and is it a AO Smith or St. Louis body as the codes are different.

            Re: C2 correct compressor ?

            Thanks Peter and Page

The AC comp foil has only the model number; no date code in the blank field on the foil label , So the end cap information was greatly appreciated. Sounds like not worth the trouble to rebuild this unit and I'll go for an exchange A6 compressor and purchase another foil label. Thanks for the help.

Randy - If there's no code info on the foil label, I'd be inclined to think someone put a new label one the compressor. Pete
