    C1 front suspension

    Hello
I have a problem with the front spindel and spindle support on a 59vette .
The standart king pin set will not fit the old spindle.
I think I need a King pin overszise kit.
Have anyone a Idea I can order an overszise kit.
    Thanks Berndt

    Berndt,
I know of only one kingpin kit for C1 cars, and I do not belive that they make oversize kits for them. It is not like other kingpin kits where the bushing is reamed to final size, the corvette bushings float in the bore and are proper sized from the box. The pin should float in the bushing and the bushing should float in the spindle support. It could be that you still have old bushings in your spindles, as they tend to seize if they are not kept lubricated. They can be pressed out and the bore cleaned up to allow the new ones to go in.

What are you specifically refering to? If you mean that the bushings are undersize and are still sloppy in the bores, any machine shop can make you a set of oversize bushings. If they are real loose, your spindle(s) may be worn unevenly and need to be bored to clean them up as well. I do not know of any "oversize" kingpin sets that are available. If they are just a very little loose, you can try *****ing the inside of the spindles with a punch in even increments around the bore. This should keep the bushings from turning in the bore.

It can be costly to find new or good spindels, so if you have to remove them any way take them to a Machinist and have him machine the spindels making your over size bushing.Just a thought!

Obviously you already have the spindles off. Simply take the spindles and the kingpins to a good automotive machine shop and have them make some bushings. They will have to bore the spindles a little to be sure the bores are round and aligned. Be sure they don't forget the lube holes and grooves. The kingpins should turn very freely on the bores, but have no lateral slop.
