Just bought a drop dead gorgeous ZR1 (91) with less than 2,000 miles. The Bose system is making horrible squeals and weird noises through the right front speaker and nothing from the others. Any advice would be appreciated

Re: C4 Bose Gold stereo
I just went through this with my 90 coupe. Each speaker has its own amplifier, and these amplifiers are prone to going bad. Some people have successfully repaired the amplifiers themselves. I just sent my back to the Bose repair center. They sent me brand new amplifiers at a cost of $56 each, plus shipping.
If you decide on this option, send all four in at the same time, even if some of them are still working. They will eventually fail.
Call Bose at 1-800-231-2673 and get a return authorization number. They will send you a letter with the RMA on it, and the mailing address of where to send the amps. About a week later you should get new amplifiers. Letting them charge everything to a credit card helps.
You can also buy new amplifiers from various sources. Prices seem to be about $100 each for Bose amps, and a bit less for aftermarket replacement amps.
You have to take the speakers out of the car, and then remove the amplifiers from the speakers. Don't send in the whole speaker, just send in the amps.
Good luck on this, and congratulations on your new toy.- Top

Carl:
I had a similar problem with my '85, and my first thought was to condemn the amplifiers, but they all checked out OK. It turns out that the harness connectors on the radio are susceptible to oxidation. Mine has been fine since I cleaned them about 4 years ago.
Go there first.
