I am currently running a non-original, over-the-counter, GM tach drive distributor (part number unknown). I'm in the process of putting in a set of new points, and I noticed there was no cam lubricator mounted anywhere, to lube the breaker cam. Could this be normal? Do not all distributors lube the breaker cam? I did notice a possible mounting hole for a cam lubricator on the breaker plate. Can I get the lubricator at the parts store?

The distributors originally had a cam lubricator. It was a white plastic "tower" with a grease-saturated foam rubber swab attached to the top. The base of the plastic "tower" snapped into a small, rectangular hole in the distributor base plate.

The lubricator has been GM-discontinued for many years. It may be available from auto parts stores in the Echlin, Standard, NAPA or other aftermarket ignition parts lines.

Chris I stopped using this wick lubrication on my 70 after the first tune up back in 71. I still use on my 68 and 70 a manual application from a tube of lubricant that was sold for point rubbing block lubrication made by Blue Streak. I also use it for the pivot point lubrication on the centrifical advance and where they slide back and forth.
