    Re: C3 1979 L-82 Aluminum Intakes-Differences

    Paul-----

At the moment, I can't tell you what the differences are between these 2 manifold casting numbers. However, I can tell you that I greatly expect that the differences are minor. The major difference is likely the casting number and, certainly, as far as judging is concerned, that would be the only difference that matters.

I can tell you that the 2 manifolds are completely interchangeable. The GM CASTING #458520 was known as GM PART #458519. The GM CASTING #14007378 was known as GM PART #14007377. In mid-1979, the GM #14007377 replaced the GM #458519 for SERVICE of all 1978 L-82 applications. That fact confirms rearward compatibility for the 14007378 and strongly implies forward compatibility for the 458519.

I can also tell you that the GM casting #458520 was, primarily, a 1978 model year L-82 manifold. It's possible that its use carried over into the very beginning of the 1979 model year, but I would not expect to find one on a car past s/n 1000, if any were actually used, at all. The GM casting #14007378 was, primarily, the 1979 L-82 manifold.

The GM #14007377 manifold was available in SERVICE for many years, but is no longer available.

      Re: C3 1979 L-82 Aluminum Intakes-Differences

the NHRA specs for 1979 225 hp corvette lists 14007378 as the manifold with the 458520 as optional manifold. the 458520 is listed as the 1978 manifold like john posted. these specs are supplied to NHRA by chevy for the stock classes.

Thanks Clem. I guess that I can conclude that the 14007378 would not be a stranger on my 1979.

Any idea where I can find the EFE thermal vacuum switch (TVS, T-stat housing) and the EGR/TVS valve near the AIR pump for the 140073878 intake?

Yes, your GM dealer can supply both. The manifold-mounted EGR switch is GM #373510 and currently lists for $24.80 US. The theromostat housing-mounted EFE switch is currently GM #14009008 and GM lists for $11.57 US.

Thanks Joe. In my earlier correspondence I neglected to mention that I am semi-retired from the corporate/high-stress world and now fill my days with a McJob at a GM dealer. I will run those numbers tomorrow. And purchase if available in Canada.

And they are available in Canada from GM depots in Woodstock, Ontario and Montreal, Quebec. Thanks again!
