    68-72 Wiper Relay Numbers

Question. The original wiper relay under the console is 1115826. Mine went bad, so I got the current replacement, 3989214. It works great, but doesn't look a bit like the original. (you can't see it when it's installed anyway)

On EBAY, I was looking at a relay 1115858. It looked just like the original...but different number. The seller said if was for Camaro headlight motors, 68-72 Corvette headlight motors (of which there are NONE) OR for 68-72 WS wiper. I checked my parts book, 1972 version, and it's listed. Is this a replacement for the "826"? Chuck

    Chuck----

Yes, the GM #1115858 relay will work perfectly for the 69 windshield wiper relay application. In fact, it was the original SERVICE relay specified for the 68+ Corvette application from the outset of the 1968 model year.

The curious thing is that the GM #1115826 relay, which has other applications besides the Corvette application, was discontinued from SERVICE in May 1967 and replaced by the GM #1115858 at that time. This would imply that the 1115826 relay was discontinued from PRODUCTION prior to the beginning of the 1968 model year since parts are usually discontinued from SERVICE after they are discontinued from PRODUCTION (SERVICE stocks usually last longer than PRODUCTION stocks). However, it may be that the GM #1115826 and the GM #1115858 are identical relays, but the '858' was just packaged differently. It's also possible, of course, that the 1118526 was used in PRODUCTION after its SERVICE use ended.

Thanks, Joe. The "original"? non functional relay that I removed from my 69 was an 826. I still have it. I guess I should have bid on that 858. The auction is over, and since I wasn't sure, I let it pass. Chuck

One more thing, Joe. The 826 is the one listed in the 69 AIM. Chuck
