    1960 Console Plate Finish

The die cast pot metal console plate (where air/heat/blower knobs are) was pitted with numerous pinhead sized corrosion spots. I am trying to restore my original before purchasing a repro. The JM states the finish is "brushed aluminum," but mine looks like it used to be chromed (with black lettering). I used a stationary belt sander to lightly remove the corroded surface and now ready to put the finish back on it. What is that finish suppose to be?

Joe, I belive that the plate was brushed chrome and not brushed aluminum. Both my 60 and the 59 appeared to have the originals, and both were brushed chrome.
You saw the repro on mine in Waco, and I only took 1 point hit for it. I belive that you would take at least that for condition on your original given it's condition. I would put a repro on it and stick the old one in a box, as you never know when you might want it!
