    58 E-brake flasher

Does anyone know the correct flasher #(ie the number stamped on the flasher not the GM part #) for the e brake alarm. Is it 642? Also the correct bulb for this application. Are the NOS flashers for this black? JM says dark brown bakelite. Thanks Ken

It is a Tung Sol flasher, black. It is about 2 1/2" long and 1/2" X 1/2"square. It has 2 female receptors for the leads.

I agree with dave Mine is black and I have never seen a brown one! I got a sneaking suspicion that this may be one of those areas where the JG is in error.

I believe that the correct flasher number is 650. That is the one used in 1956 and 1957. If so, It will be white ink stamped on the part, not moulded into the case. I can post the number of the bulb later when I get to my reference materials, if someone else hasn't already.

          Hi Bernard,

I have a 650 in there now that was on the car with a bubba-rigged 57 and earlier jewel type flasher and a #90 bulb in it. It worked with the larger #90 but not with the smaller 57 bulb which goes in the speedo face. I think the flasher unit changed to 642 in 58 thru 60 to work with the smaller bulb.

Thanks to all who responded, Ken

Ken, I'm closer to my references now. The 58-60 and 56-57 used different flashers. The 642 flasher is for the #57 bulb. It's black and has the number moulded into the case unlike the 650 which is as I described in the earlier post and is used with the #90 bulb.
